Author:- Keshab Bhattacherjee Born on 4th January, 1953 in Howrah district of West Bengal. Original and paternal root lie in the district of Coomilla , now under Bangladesh. Education at Nimta Higher Secondary School in the district of (N) 24 Paraganas of West Bengal , St. Paul’s Cathedral Mission College Kolkata, Surendranath Law College under the University of Calcutta. B.Sc, B.A, LL.B , Advocate at the High court at Calcutta. Initiation in the left student s’ politics in 1970 , he was directly associated with the All India Students’ Bloc,(AISB) the student wing of All India Forward Bloc. In 1976 he became the General Secretary of the West Bengal State Committee of All India Students’ Bloc. In 1978 he became the General Secretary of the Central Committee of All India Students; Bloc. As a whole time worker of left politics he participated in many mass move movements and courted imprisonment different times. He was critically injured in police assault several times. In 1978 he joined the XIth World Youth and Student Festival in Cuba as an Indian delegate and in the year of 1986 also joined the International Education Conference , organized by “ International Union Of the Students”(I.U.S) at Prague in Czechoslovakia . In the same year ie, 1986 he also participated in the conference of “World Federation of Democratic Youth”(WFDY) at Budapest in Hungary. As he was full-time engaged in left politics , he started his career as a legal practitioner at the High Court at Calcutta from 1984 despite being an earlier graduate of law in 1977 from Surendra Nath Law College under University of Calcutta. From 1987 to 1998---for a long period of twelve years he was elected as the member of the Senate of the University of Calcutta from the registered graduate constituency. Netaji’s chequered and revolutionary character left a fascinating impression on his life from his student life. His studies in depth on Netaji and contemporary politics are still in progress. In 1999 he was appointed as Ld. Lawyer for the Justice Mukherjee Commission of Inquiry (JMCI) by the left party All India Forward Bloc(AIFB), founded by Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose. He attended almost all the hearings of the Commission at Kolkata, Jalpaiguri, Faizabad and New Delhi. He accompanied the Commission to Taiwan, Bangkok, Moscow, St Petersburg, and Omsk and Irkutsk (In Siberia). He was the Editor of CHHATRAMAT , the organ of All India Students’ Bloc and he wrote innumerable articles in LOKMAT, the weekly organ of All India Forward Bloc for a long years on several national and international topics. Many thought-provoking articles of his on Netaji were also published in leading Bengali dailies like BARTAMAN, SATYAJUG, AAJKAL, DAINIK BOSUMATI and also in other periodicals like YUBAMANAS, and the organ of Government of West Bengal ‘Paschhimbanga’
